Sun, Swim & Spring Training: Active COCO Takes on Peoria

A couple weeks ago (sorry for the delayed post, IT'S BEEN BUYS!), Active COCO packed up more than just sunscreen and ball caps - we packed up our families and headed to spring training in Peoria to watch the San Diego Padres kick off baseball season.

What started as a baseball trip quickly turned into what we do best, a water filled vacation... it was all we could do to stay cool in the 98 degree desert heat.

Baseball, But Make It a Family Adventure

Spring training has a different energy than regular season baseball. It’s relaxed, up close, and incredibly family-friendly. At the beautiful Peoria Sports Complex, we spent our days soaking in sunshine, cheering from the stands, and collecting player signatures (a definite highlight for the kids and honestly, the adults too).

There’s something special about watching your hometown team in a smaller setting. Every hit feels louder, every inning change you might get to chat a bit with your favorite outfielder... basically every moment a little more memorable.

When the Desert Turns Up the Heat

One thing we didn’t fully anticipate? Just how hot it would be.

Temperatures climbed into the high 90s all weekend - which meant hydration, shade, and swimming quickly became just as important as baseball itself. Between games, swimming wasn’t just fun; it was survival....as well as the little splash pad inside the stadium. Even adults were hopping in.

Pools became our reset button:

- Morning swims to cool off before heading to the fields

- Afternoon dips after long games in the sun

If there’s one universal truth we confirmed on this trip, it’s this: when the weather heats up, water becomes the center of everything.

What Was Most Fun

Beyond the games, the weekend was filled with everything we love most:

- Fishing at sunrise

- Tailgating with friends and fellow fans

- Kids running barefoot between coolers, gloves, and lawn chairs

It was the kind of sun-filled weekend that reminds you how wonderful outdoor time really is.

The Best Kind of Weekend

By the time we packed up to head home, we were sun-tired, happy, and already talking about next year’s trip.

Here’s to more sunshine, more swimming, and more baseball ahead.
